Creating music that combines a variety of sounds, while at the same time producing a feel that is completely relatable to the listener is a difficult task for any band, but Columbia, SC’s Barnwell has been able to accomplish that with their latest release, ‘Motel Art’. Well-written, melodic pop songs that lyrically explore the struggles, triumphs and tragedies of life are accompanied by soaring Nashville guitar counter-melodies that allow the band to blur the lines between Alt-country and brainy pop. Founding member Tyler Gordon mines a deep lyrical vein for songs that explore spirituality and contemplation. And don’t worry, hooks are here in abundance, both musically and lyrically, so we are certain that at some point in Barnwell’s set you’ll find yourself singing or humming along.
